Boeing - Long Haul Future

The future of aviation is becoming increasingly a matter of getting people to destinations efficiently, but slowly as there is no replacement for Concorde in sight. What we are therefore left with are a generation of new subsonic jets which have been built with the environment in mind.
Boeing 747-8

Boeing recently launched the new Boeing 747-8 (this was the 747-Advanced) which is designed to be the next generation of jumbo jet aiming at replaceing the 747-400 and being an alternative to the Airbus A380. Two versions have been launched, which consist of a freighter and a passenger version. So far only two airlines have ordered the new 747 and they are freighter airlines Cargolux (ordered 10) and Nippon Cargo Airlines (ordered 8). Boeing claim that it is more economical than the A380 and will be equipped with the same engines that are on the Boeing 787. When passenger airlines order it, it will be able to carry around 450 passengers over a range of around 9000 miles. Another advantage that the new 747 has over the A380 is that no airport needs to change as the dimensions are similar to the 747-400, meaning it can fly to more airports. Other airlines expected to buy it include British Airways and Cathay Pacific, however it is thought that they want the aircraft to be powered by Rolls Royce engines as opposed to General Electric.
